‘Dostana’, a film which revolves around a sensitive subject like ‘homosexuality’, is getting great reviews by both, the critics and the audiences likewise.  And getting such a good opening in the first weekend itself; has the cast of the film laughing their way to the top of the popularity charts.  A film directed by a first time director and based on a society sensitive issue, getting on the list of must-watch films, has made the entire starcast happy and ‘gay’ and Karan Johar, the producer of the film has even gone on record saying. “If in the future, I ever find a story based on this subject, I would like to direct the film, myself

Both, actor; John Abraham and director; Tarun Mansukhani are overwhelmed with the response for the film and are a pleasantly surprised lot, with the success of the film.

John Abraham says, “Through the promos itself, you would have noticed that this film is very special and everybody liked the first promo of the film, after which the songs of the films; ‘Desi Girl’, ‘Maa Da Laadla’ and especially ‘Jaane Kyun’, all of which were received very well by the audience.  And I am very pleasantly surprised that the film has got such a big opening.  Although we expected the film to get a good opening, but such a big opening has taken us by surprise.  I am very happy and would like to thank the audience for their support

Dostana’ has presented such a sensitive topic like homosexuality in a very funny and light hearted manner and by the looks of it, the audience can’t help themselves, but laugh their guts out, while watching the film.  Although the movie is banned in Pakistan, it is raking in big moolah & breaking all Box Office records in Dubai.

Director Tarun Mansukhani says, “Very honestly, I don’t think any religion has any qualms about anything.  It is eventually about movie making and that’s what has been liked by the audiences in Dubai.  They have loved the film and it is not about any religion or anything else. It is only about entertaining the audience and am very happy about the fact the Dubai audience have liked the movie very much.”

John comments, “Dubai audience is a mirror image of the Mumbai audience.  And it is seen very often, that if a film does well in Mumbai, then it also does well in Dubai. And the last that we have heard, the film has broken all records in Dubai, and we are very overwhelmed and relieved

John is all praises for Tarun, on the way he has proficiently executed a film on such a sensitive topic and says, “I would give all the credit to Tarun, who has handled such a sensitive issue in a very humorous and honest fashion.  It could have gone either way, but he has been successful in making a complete entertainer on such a subject.  He has very beautifully portrayed in the film, that there is nothing wrong with homosexuality, which is very prevalent in today’s society.  I think that after this film, many people come out open with their preferences. And I would like to add that this is a very fun, romantic film which is non-offensive and it is not meant to follow some kind of responsibility or hurt someone’s pride”

John’s character named Kunal is very close to his real life and he thoroughly enjoyed acting in the film. He says, “When Tarun narrated the story of ‘Dostana’, I was laughing all through, and I think the same reaction has gone down even in the audience. Kunal is very close to my own self in real life.” On which, Tarun comments, “I think John is right, as Kunal is very close to John as a person, because he is very sheltered from inside, who goes to a family and feels a part of it right away. And I think that is what John has brought on the table.  Many of his fans, especially females, will think through the promo, that John is this good looking dude with amazing physique, but this character has a lot of depth and not just a good looker.  And when he says things, he says it with such honesty, that any girl or even a guy would feel, that I want John.”

The one person who is most happy with the success of this film, is Karan Johar, who thinks that the audience in India has matured a lot and if given a chance he would himself direct a sensitive love story like ‘Brokeback Mountain’, and it will be accepted by today’s audience.  On the other hand, Abhishek’s and John’s chemistry in this film has got the audience raving, and it will not be a surprise if they will be seen acting together in another film soon.
